Tips for Organizing Craft Supplies – Storage Ideas

The key to organizing craft supplies is to first gather and sort all your craft materials. Sorting craft supplies into smaller containers and bins is a great way to keep everything organized and arranged neatly. I sort craft materials by like items, store them in bins, and add a label for easy finding.

Though, I enjoy being in my craft room sometimes in an effort to multitask, I will scrapbook at the kitchen table, crochet in the living room, or make hair bows in the sun-room. One of the many benefits of having everything sorted in smaller containers is that you can easily grab your supplies and craft throughout your home. When you are done, everything goes back into the labeled container and is stored away for easy access.

Here are some of my favorite craft storage containers:

Stack-able Ribbon Holders – I have an abundance of ribbon and I am always looking for creative storage solutions. These ribbon holders I bought at a garage sale, several years ago. The containers stack on top of each other and allow for easy viewing of ribbon. The only “con” is they can only hold the smaller spool ribbons. The stack-able ribbon holders compliment my DIY wooden ribbon holder and hold my overflow of ribbon.

Milk Crates – Milk crates are a marvelous way to store supplies and books. Milk crates can often be found for free at schools and grocery stores. Or you can usually find something very similar at discount stores or dollar stores. Milk crates can be stacked one on top of each other or on their sides to make a bookshelf. I love craft books and I use milk crates to store my craft books. I have the crates stacked on their sides for easy access to the books.

Small Plastic Containers – I purchased small plastic containers for .99cents each at Home Depot several years ago. Sorting and storing craft supplies into the small containers is a wonderful way to organize your craft materials. I can easily see what I have and grab just the supplies I need for a craft project.

Storage with Pull-Out Drawers – I love, love, love these pull-out drawers. Each draw pulls out and has a cover so I can effortlessly grab each draw without worry about anything spilling. The container originally came with wheels but I removed the wheels and placed it on my crafting table. By placing it on the table I have quick access to my supplies.
