This year wouldn’t it be sweet to give one of a kind hand made Valentine’s Day cards? A card you decorate yourself is extra special. This Valentine’s Day card with two horses is a print of an original painting and is free to download. Use your home printer and cardstock cut to 8 ½” x 11.” Cards are half fold. Use the versatile Mini Bowdabra bow maker to create an elegant bow to add to the front for that extra special touch. Add your own sentiment or download the hand-lettered version here for the inside of your card. You can make your own envelopes or purchase envelopes that are 6” x 9” at a local party store.

Materials:

  • 16 inches of 1 ½” wide sheer red ribbon
  • Roll on Glue stick
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Card stock paper cut to 8 ½” x 11”
  • 16 inches of 1 ½” wide sheer red ribbon
  • Small felt heart shape
  • Tracing paper (If you are printing the hand-lettered sentiment)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Home printer

Instructions:

  1. Gather your supplies.

 

  1. Download the free printable card. Cut your card stock to 8 ½” x 11.” Follow the instructions for your home printer for printing color images. Insert the cardstock into the printer and print. Fold the card in half.

  1. Cut the ribbon in half. You will have two eight inch long pieces of ribbon.

 

  1. Make the dovetails. Using one eight-inch piece of of ribbon, fold the end in half and cut at an angle to the fold. Open and you will have a dovetail. Repeat for other end.

  1. Cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire 18 inches, fold in half and insert into the bow maker. You will have a loop at one end and two loose ends at the other.

  1. Insert the ribbon with dovetail ends into the bow maker with equal amounts of ribbon on each side. (Tails)

 

  1. Insert the other piece of ribbon in the bow maker and make a loop on the to the 1 ½” line. Make a matching loop on the other side.

 

  1. Scrunch down with the wand.

 

  1. Thread the loose ends of the bow wire through the loop and pull into a slipknot while the bow is still in the bow maker. Pull tight and remove from the bow maker. Tie a knot in the back and fluff up and arrange the bow.

 

  1. Using a hot glue gun attach the bow to the front of the card. Add some more glue and add the felt hear to the center.

 

  1. If you choose to download the sentiment, use your home printer to print on a piece of tracing paper to fit your printer. Trim the sentiment to fit the inside of the card and use a glue stick to attach it to the center.
