Valentine headband tutorial with Mini Bowdabra

You can make this adorable Valentine headband quick and easy to wear on Valentine’s Day. I’ve used soft yarn to tie off the bow in the Bowdabra Mini Bow Maker and sewed on the heart motif so that you can use it for baby too!

Although my daughter has beautiful thick blond hair today, when she was a baby her hair was fine and took a while to grow long. In order that no one would think she was a boy I had to constantly dress her in pink and lace. To this day she doesn’t care for pink. Nowadays the baby hair bands are a great way to show your baby’s femininity without a pink overload.

Supplies:

  • Bowdabra Mini Bow Maker
  • Approximately 42 inches of 6-inch wide white sparkle tulle (If you use 3 inch wide tulle your bow will be smaller)
  • Thin red tubular mesh ribbon
  • White worsted weight yarn
  • Wide white baby elastic hair band
  • Red puffy heart
  • Needle and thread or hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of white worsted weight ribbon 18 inches long. Fold in half and insert in the Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one side and two pieces of yarn on the other. You will be using this to make a slipknot when you tie the bow.
  1. Insert the white sparkle tulle into the Bowdabra from the top pushing down like an accordion. Continue to insert the tulle into the Bowdabra till you have used up the approximate 3 ½ feet of tulle.

  1. Scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.

  1. Cut four 3-inch pieces of thin red tubular mesh ribbon and insert each piece into the Bowdabra making sure there is about the same amount of ribbon on each side. Use the wand to scrunch down again.

  1. Insert the two loose yarn pieces through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Remove from the Bowdabra, turn to the back and tie a knot. Adjust and arrange the bow if necessary.

  1. Use the loose ends of the yarn to thread through the elastic headband and tie in a knot. Cut any excess yarn off.

  1. Thread a needle with some white thread and sew on the puffy heart to the center of the bow attached to the headband. (You may use hot glue if you prefer)
