Crisp fall days call for a hot beverage to warm the heart and hands. And the perfect fall beverage is hot mulled cider. This recipe was my great aunt’s, and when I make it, it conjures up memories of cool fall days and her warm mulled cider. I hope you enjoy it, too.
Ingredients for the Hot Mulled Cider
- 3 quarts cider
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- stick of cinnamon
- 1 whole nutmeg
- ½ cup sugar (optional; I generally omit it)
- For garnish:
- Orange wedge
- Whole cloves
- Cinnamon stick
Preparation of the Hot Muller Cider
- Simmer all the ingredients for 5 minutes. Do not boil
- Make garnish. Cut a 3/8″ orange slice into wedges. Insert two or three whole cloves in the rind along the edge. Thread a stick of cinnamon through the orange pulp. Arrange the decorated orange wedge on the rim of a mug.
- Strain the mulled cider and serve in warm mugs.
