Creating a pretty Ballerina Hair Bow with a Jewel Accent

I fell in love with the Ballerina Hair Bow  on our blog – when asked to help with a friend’s child to create gifts for her dance class friends – I knew this pretty ballerina hair bow would be perfect with just a couple of “tweaks” to make it our own.

Pretty Ballerina Hair Bow

Let’s gather our supplies:

  • Mini Bowdabra Bowmaker with Ruler
  • Bowdabra Bow Wire – Silver (cut a 22 inch piece for each hair bow)
  • 1-1/2″ Width Wired Ribbon – Pink
    •  Cut one piece 15″ for tail
    •   Cut one piece 12″ for bow
  • 7/8″ Sheer / Organza Ribbon with scalloped edge – Pink
    •   Cut one piece 12″ for bow
  • Pink Jewels
  • Black Felt
  • Ballet Shoe Pattern
  • Hair Clips (available at big box craft stores)
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Let’s get started:

  • Cut Ballet Shoe detail (designer tip:  Cut the shoe and laces as one piece) from black felt, glue to both ends of 15″ Ribbon, trim ribbon around curve of shoe detail

  • Cut a length of Cut Ballet Shoe detail (designer tip: Cut the shoe and laces as one piece) from black felt, glue to both ends of 15″ Ribbon, trim ribbon around curve of shoe detail Wrap Silver Bowdabra Bow Wire around Bowdabra Bow Maker Mini, tucking ends underneath Pinch center of Ribbon with Ballet Shoe detail and push onto Bowdabra Bow Maker Mini. (this will be the “tails” of your bow) Then, layer 12″ Chiffon Ribbon over top of 12″ Pink wired ribbon – pinch and push into the bowmaker (see details in picture) Using the Bowdabra tool, push and scrunch your layers tight. Next, pull loose ends of Bowdabra Wire through loop at other end of wire, pull tight, separate ends, wrap around to back of your bow and tie Glue Jewel to center of bow, tie bow onto to clip or hair tie”>Silver Bowdabra Bow Wire and fold in half.  Insert into the  Bowdabra Bow Maker Mini, tucking ends underneath. This will be your slipknot.
  • Now, pinch the center of Ribbon with Ballet Shoe detail and push onto Bowdabra Bow Maker Mini (this will be the “tails” of your bow)

  • Next, layer 12″ Chiffon Ribbon over top of 12″ Pink wired ribbon – pinch and push into the bowmaker (see details in picture)

Finishing your Ballerina bow

  • Using the Bowdabra tool, push and scrunch your layers tight
  • Finally, pull loose ends of Bowdabra Wire through loop at other end of wire, pull tight, separate ends, wrap around to back of your bow and tie a knot.

  • To finish, glue Jewel to center of bow, tie bow onto to clip or hair tie

These adorable hair bows were a big hit with the dance class!
