Instructions for Making the Valentine Kitty Hair Bow

  1. Cut the ribbons to length. I used the Proxxon Hot Wire Thermcut 115/E. It seals the cut ends as it cuts. Alternatively, quickly pass the ribbon ends through a flame to seal.
  2. Add the kitty face to the end of one of the 16″ lengths of 3″ white grosgrain ribbon. You can draw the face with fabric or permanent markers or cut the face from heat transfer vinyl and press onto the ribbon. I’ve sublimated the valentine kitty face on my ribbon. This will be the tail of the large hair bow. (Note: The PDF pattern for the kitty face include four options.)
  3. Place the ruler tool onto the Mini Bowdabra.
  4. Fold the bow wire in half and put in the Mini Bowdabra. Tuck the ends of the wire under the Mini Bowdabra to keep them out of the way.
  5. Place the center of the 16″ tail in the Mini Bowdabra face up.
  6. Place the end of the other 16″ length of grosgrain ribbon in the Mini Bowdabra.
  7. Using the ruler as a guide, make equal loops on each side.
  8. Compress the ribbon with the Mini Bowdabra Wand.
  9. With the ribbons still in the Mini Bowdabra, pass the wire ends through the loop and tighten. Tie a secure knot. Remove the bow from the Mini Bowdabra, bring the wire ends to the back side of the bow, and tie a second knot. Leave the wire ends long—they will be cut later. Set aside.

Finish your bow

  1. Now, we’ll make the kitty’s hair bow. Add bow wire to the Mini Bowdabra as in Step 4.
  2. Place one end of the 10″ length of patterned ribbon in the Mini Bowdabra face down.
  3. Bring the other end over the top of the Mini Bowdabra and place face down in the Mini Bowdabra.
  4. Press the center of the circle of the patterned ribbon that you just created into the Mini Bowdabra.
  5. Compress the ribbon with the Mini Bowdabra Wand.
  6. With the ribbons still in the Mini Bowdabra, pass the wire ends through the loop and tighten as in Step 9. Tie a secure knot. Remove the bow from the Mini Bowdabra, bring the wire ends to the back side of the bow, and tie a second knot. Leave the wire ends long—they will be cut later.
  7. Using E6000 adhesive or hot glue, glue the onto the bows. The 3″ length of white satin ribbon pairs with the patterned ribbon bow. The 6″ length of patterned ribbon wraps around the center of the over-sized white grosgrain bow with the valentine kitty face. Secure the hair clip in place as you are wrapping the patterned ribbon around the grosgrain bow. If necessary, use clamps to hold the ribbon in place until it is thoroughly dry. Trim the wire ends.
  8. Using E6000 adhesive or hot glue, glue the patterned ribbon above the kitty face.
