How to quickly make a beautiful mermaid hair bow

How would you like to make this beautiful mermaid hair bow for your little mermaid?  It’s so easy you can create this mermaid hair bow in literally minutes.  It is so elegant with the velveteen ribbon.  Add the fish scale cabochons to finish the look.

Instructions:

First, gather all your materials.  Cut one piece of 2” wide velveteen ribbon 15” long and another piece 14” long.

Next, fold the end of the shorter piece of ribbon and cut at an angle to make a pointed end.  Repeat for the other end.  Use a lighter to seal the ends so they do not fray.

Make the bow

Cut an 18” piece of Bowdabra bow wire.  Fold it in half and insert into the Mini Bowdabra.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side. Tuck the ends underneath to keep out of the way while you make your bow.

Now, twist the shorter piece of ribbon with the pointed ends so that the right sides are facing up. Insert the ribbon into the Bowdabra. These are the tails.

Next, insert the other piece of ribbon right side facing down. Bring the other end over and insert into the Bowdabra.  Now, push the center down.  The loops should be right side up.  Adjust the loops if necessary.

Push down with the Bowdabra wand.  The ribbon is very thick so you will need to push it in there.  Now, insert the two loose wires through the loop (slipknot) and pull tightly while the bow is still in the Bowdabra.  Take the bow out of the Bowdabra, turn to the back and tie a knot. Double knot it for extra security. Adjust your bow.

Finishing

To finish, randomly glue on various size fish scale cabochons on the tails.  Glue the larger cabochon to the center of the mermaid hair bow.

Glue the alligator clip on the back of the hair bow.  I like to tie it as well with the extra bow wire.  Clip the ends.

Isn’t this the most elegant hair bow? Although it is a mermaid style and popular with the kids, adults would love this as well don’t you think?  Check out Bowdabra designer, Crystal’s blog at Make it easy crafts for more fun and very easy projects.
