Bowdabra Butterfly bow
“Hi, I’m Sandy Sandler, the creator of the Bowdabra Bowmaker. Today, I’m going to show you how to use the Mini Bowdabra to make this beautiful butterfly bow. So, let’s get started.”
First, I’m going to do is make the tails. So, I’m going to dovetail the ends, and just in case you’re not familiar with dovetailing, all I do is fold my ribbon in half and cut from the fold to the corner and you have these nice little dovetails which make a nice finished bow.
Next, I have a piece of Bowdabra Bow Wire that’s long enough that I can lay it into the Mini Bowdabra and just tuck the ends underneath so they stay out of my way. The first thing I’m going to do is take my tails. I’m going to fold it in half. You don’t have to fold it in if you want your tails different lengths. And just lay that into my Mini Bowdabra.
Make the butterfly bow
Then, what I’m going to do is take the right side of the ribbon, twist it so the wrong side of the ribbon is up. I’m going to fold it back over, twist, and I’m going to do the same thing on this side and twist.
Graduate the loops
And what we’re going to do here is I’m actually going to graduate my loops going in. so the next one I’m going to make a little bit smaller. And this one a little bit smaller here. I’m going to do the same thing here, make it a little bit smaller and a little bit smaller. And I’m just going to bring this over here.
And then, what I’m going to do is actually take my wire. So, this is a little tricky. I’m just going to take my wire through here. And then, I’m going to scrunch this all in. And now, I’ll take this piece here, and I just did this differently than I normally do and go through the center loop. I thought, why not just show you another technique?
Then, pull that really tight while it’s still in the Bowdabra. I’m going to pull it around. And now, I’m going to separate the ends, bring one through the loop, one behind it. Now, I’m going to just now tie a knot and tie another knot. And we’ll just shape this out. It doesn’t need a lot of shaping. It kind of resembles a butterfly, so that’s why we call it a butterfly bow. So, it’s super simple.
