Due to the recent stay at home orders, many people are crafting to pass the time. Reading is another productive pastime. What better way to get kids crafting and reading than to make a fun bookmark tassel?
I bet you didn’t know that Bowdabra is a multi-function tool that allows you to easily create tassels, pompoms, and bows. And, it’s so easy to use that kids can create their own personalized tassels. I used scraps of ribbons, trims and more to create a unique textural tassel in minutes.
How to make a fun bookmark tassel
Materials:
- Scraps of crafting scraps (ribbon, rickrack, trims, yarns, etc.)
- Mini Bowdabra
- Bowdabra bow wire
- Bookmark or printed cardstock cut to bookmark size
Instructions:
First, cut all your scrap pieces 8-inches long. Vary the colors and textures of each piece. I used 10 pieces of ribbon/craft scraps for my bookmark tassel. You can use more or less as desired.
Next, cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire. Fold it in half and insert it into the Mini Bowdabra. You will have a loop on one end and two loose wires on the other, which will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends of the wire under the Bowdabra to stay out of the way while you create your tassel.
Now take each piece of ribbon or trim and fold it in half to find the center. Then, insert it into the Bowdabra. Make sure each end is about the same length. Continue adding pieces of ribbon this way until you have used up them all.
Scrunch down with the Bowdabra wand.
Now, thread the two loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the tassel is still in the Bowdabra. Remove, and tie a knot. Tie a double knot for extra security.
Cut an additional piece of Bowdabra bow wire and tie a knot tightly about a ¼” down from the top. Tie another knot to secure. Trim all the ends so that they are even. Tassel made.
Tie the two loose ends into a tight knot and loop the tassel through the hole at the top of your bookmark.
