Repurpose used dryer sheets to help minimize landfill. Used dryer sheets are not recyclable or compostable, so they end up as trash and go to landfills. You can make a gift or treat bag from used dryer sheets.
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Used dryer sheets
- Scissors
- Twine, yarn, ribbon, etc.
- Double-sided tape
- Food coloring (optional)
Let’s make a Used Dryer Sheet Gift or Treat Bag:
- In a small bowl combine warm water and a few drops of food coloring. Soak the used dryer sheets in the colored water for several minutes. This step is optional but can add pizzazz to your treat bag.
- Lay the colored dryer sheets on old towels or rags to dry. Try to avoid using paper towels—we want to reduce waste with this project as much as possible.
- You can cut the dryer sheets to the size you want for your gift or treat bag, or leave it whole. For a small treat bag, I cut the dryer sheet into quarters.
- You’ll need two pieces the same size for one bag. Place double-sided tape along three edges of one of the pieces.
- Expose the adhesive on the tape, and glue the second piece in place directly on top of the first one.
- Fill your bag and tie the top closed with a length of ribbon, twine, or yarn.
- If you want to go a step further, you can pierce holes around the top of the treat bag about ¾” from the edge with the tip of pointed scissors or a ballpoint pen. Weave a length of twine or yarn through the holes. After filling the bag, gently gather to close the bag, and tie in place with a bow.
