How to Make the Perfect Pom Pom Halloween Pumpkins from Yarn

Pumpkins and Halloween just seem to go together. These fun and easy to make pom pom pumpkins are great Halloween decorations.

Here are the supplies that you’ll need:

• DIY Pom Pom Loom
• Orange yarn
• 2½” length of green chenille stem
• 2″ length of brown chenille stem
• Liquid glue or strong glue dots

Let’s make a Pom Pom Pumpkin:

1. Make your own pom pom loom following these simple steps.
2. Cut a 22″ length of yarn, and fold in half. Slide this tying cord into the slot on the loom. Using a double thickness helps to ensure that this cord doesn’t break when you’re tying the securing knot in place.
3. Wrap yarn around the loom. The more wraps you make, the fatter your pom pom will be. The weight of the yarn also affects the number of wraps you’ll want. Thinner yarn requires more wraps.
4. When you’re finished wrapping, bring the tying cord on the back side of the loom around the wraps and through the open slot. Tie a very tight, secure knot.
5. There is a gap for the scissor blades near the spacer end of the loom.
6. Put the scissor blades in the gap and cut the loops at the top and bottom of the loom. Really sharp scissors will be a big help here.
7. Fluff your pom pom, and give it a haircut if necessary to even out the shape. Trim the tying cords.
8. Coil the green chenille stem around a dowel rod, knitting needle, skewer, etc.
9. Glue the brown stem and green tendril in place at the top of the pumpkin pom pom.
