How to Make a Jaunty Christmas Salt Shaker Snowman Decoration

About this time of year I start haunting the area thrift shop on the lookout for old salt shakers to make this Christmas salt shaker snowman. Sometimes there isn’t one old salt shaker to be found. Luckily, the dollar stores have very reasonable substitutes—like the one for this fellow.Salt Shaker Snowman

Here are the supplies you’ll need to gather:

  • Clear glass salt shaker
  • Salt
  • Ping pong ball or Styrofoam ball
  • Orange and black markers
  • Scrap of cloth or ribbon about 9″ long and ½” to ¾” wide
  • Strong adhesive (i.e., E6000 or hot glue)

Let’s make the Christmas salt shaker snowman:

  1. Fill the shaker with salt.
  2. Use the markers to draw a face on the ball.
  3. Add a bead of glue around the rim of the salt shaker.
  4. Position the ball/head on top of the open shaker.
  5. Add a bead of glue around the bottom rim of the salt shaker cap, and position on the snowman’s head for a hat.
  6. Tie the cloth or ribbon around the neck of the salt shaker.
  7. Enjoy displaying your Christmas salt shaker snowman!!
