Video DIY How to create an awesome winter lantern swag

It’s Joette here and I have some tips from a Florist for you! Now that the Holidays are over, all the lights, colorful decor, and trees are put away, it’s probably looking a little bit bare. Well, create this awesome winter lantern swag to fill in that decor gap until it’s time to put out the Spring decor!

Hopefully, you got to hit up a few after-Christmas sales and pick up some greenery, floral and berry picks. Or, you may already have some on your Christmas decorations that you can borrow for the Winter decor. Some of the picks I’ve used in this swag are just partial ones.

Anything goes here, none of us will have the exact same items to use. My materials list will be an example of what you’ll need to make a Winter Swag similar to this one. So let’s get started!

Materials:

Lantern

Large Bowdabra

Bowdabra Bow Wire

2 yards of 2.5” wide Silver Gleam Ribbon, pre-dovetailed

5 – Assorted Evergreen stems & pick – (Some with pine cones and some with silver ornaments… Mostly flocked stems.)

1 – Flocked stick pick

1 – Faux iced stem piece, broken off from an ornament (For the centerpiece of the bow.)

Instructions:

First cut a piece of Bowdabra bow wire.  Then, fold it in half and insert it into the Bowdabra.  You will have a loop on one side and two loose wires on the other side.  This will serve as your slipknot. Tuck the ends under to stay out of the way while you are making your bow.

Next, place in some berry, evergreen, and silver picks. Mix and match the greenery and flocked picks placing them end to end.

Now, add the bow. Place the ribbon into the Bowdabra on top of your floral base.

Add an 8-inch tail, fold a loop and place it on the other side. Continue to twist and fold making loops. Make the loops slightly smaller as you go.

Finish with a second tail on the same side as the first.

Now, scrunch everything down with the Bowdabra wand.  Then, insert the loose wires through the loop and pull tight while the bow is still in the Bowdabra. Then, remove the bow from the Bowdabra, separate the ends, turn to the back and tie a knot.  Tie a double knot for extra security.

Use the excess wire to tie the swag to the lantern.  Fluff and arrange your bow. You have a beautiful DIY winter lantern swag to brighten up your winter decor.
