How to Make the Perfect Fall Beverage— Hot Mulled Cider

Crisp fall days call for a hot beverage to warm the heart and hands. And the perfect fall beverage is hot mulled cider. This recipe was my great aunt’s, and when I make it, it conjures up memories of cool fall days and her warm mulled cider. I hope you enjoy it, too.How to Make Fall Beverage Hot Mulled Cider Recipe

Ingredients for the Hot Mulled Cider

  • 3 quarts cider
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • stick of cinnamon
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • ½ cup sugar (optional; I generally omit it)
  • For garnish:
    • Orange wedge
    • Whole cloves
    • Cinnamon stick

Preparation of the Hot Muller Cider

  1. Simmer all the ingredients for 5 minutes. Do not boil
  2. Make garnish. Cut a 3/8″ orange slice into wedges. Insert two or three whole cloves in the rind along the edge. Thread a stick of cinnamon through the orange pulp. Arrange the decorated orange wedge on the rim of a mug.
  3. Strain the mulled cider and serve in warm mugs.
