Supplies for the Easiest Ever Big Hair Bow

Instructions for Making the Easiest Ever Big Hair Bow

  1. Fold the ends of the wide ribbon at a 45° angle.
  2. Crease the ribbon on the fold to mark your cutting line.
  3. The cuts should be parallel, so when the ribbon is folded in half they look like this. Quickly pass the ribbon ends through a flame to seal.
  4. Cut four  6″ x ½” strips of HTV to trim the ends of the ribbon. Cut one 5″ x 5/8″ strip of HTV for narrow ribbon.
  5. Press the HTV in place using either a heat press or home iron. See notes below for using a home iron.
  6. Fold the bow wire in half and put in the Bowdabra. Tuck the ends of the wire under the Bowdabra to keep them out of the way.
  7. Fold one of the lengths of wide ribbon in half so the HTV decorated sides are up.
  8. At about 1½” above the HTV on the outer edge, pleat the ribbon.
  9. Place the folded, pleated ribbon in the Bowdabra.
  10. 9 Repeat Steps 7 and 8 for the second length of ribbon.
  11. Place the second folded pleated ribbon in the Bowdabra. Try to get the two ribbon lengths beside each other as much as possible (as opposed to on top of one another).
  12. Compress the ribbons with the Bowdabra wand.
  13. With the ribbons still in the Bowdabra, pass the wire ends through the loop and tighten.

Finishing your bow

  1. Tie a secure knot. Remove the bow from the Bowdabra, bring the wire ends to the back side of the bow, and tie a second knot. Leave the wire ends long, and fold toward the bottom of the bow.
  2. Wrap the 5/8″ ribbon around the center of the bow, and use hot glue or strong liquid adhesive to secure in place. Add any optional bling. Use the wire ends to tie an elastic hair tie in place.
